The hotel takes shape

GrandUniverseLucca, hotel di lusso a Lucca

At sunrise, Lucca reveals itself in all its beauty. The city of the famous composer Giacomo Puccini takes life and the streets and “Piazzas “fill in with tourists and spectators arriving to join the events that take place in the walled city. In one of the “Piazzas” in particular there is a lot of activity and bustle….. it’s “Piazza del Giglio”, where the refurbishment of the Hotel Grand Universe Lucca takes place restoring the Hotel to all of its ancient glowing splendor.

I stayed there way back in 1972 (I think) with choir members and Lorenzo Malfatti’s Chatham College Choir with the Hamilton College choir on tour. We stayed in Lucca for 2 weeks. The hotel and Lucca are ideally located! I’d assume rooms now all have bathrooms. Wall art was continuous and the frescos ran from room to room. Amazing! The improvements are AMAZING!

We stayed at the hotel Universo in June just before it closed. We loved it . The staff were great and we ate at the hotels restaurant most days . We were devastated when we learned of its closure . We return twice a year and each time we hope to see the reopening of the hotel. Lucca is not the same without ?the iconic building. Please let us know when it will be re-opening.

My dad brought me to Italy 50 years ago because it was his first trip back to his homeland. We stayed at your hotel for six wonderful weeks! I returned this past October and can’t wait to come back to my favorite hotel this coming summer..
